The Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci, created circa 1472–1476, is among his earliest major works and exemplifies the Early renaissance period. Executed using oil and tempera on a large panel made from wood, the painting depicts the biblical scene of the Annunciation, a common religious painting subject. Completed while Leonardo apprenticed in Verrocchio’s studio in Florence, it has been housed in the Uffizi Gallery since 1867. Despite some compositional inaccuracies, it remains a celebrated portrayal of this sacred event in Christian art.
