"Madonna and Child," an Italian Mannerism (late renaissance) Religious painting by Parmigianino, exemplifies the distinctive style of the period around 1535-1540. This Panel painting portrays the Madonna with elongated features and a graceful, elongated Long Neck, symbolizing elegance and spirituality, with cherubs and angels surrounding her. Crafted in oil paints, the work was initially intended for Francesco Tagliaferri’s funerary chapel but remained incomplete at Parmigianino’s death in 1540. Acquired by Ferdinando de' Medici in 1698, it has been displayed at the Uffizi Gallery since 1948.
