Portrait of a Woman

'Portrait of a Woman' by Ilya Mashkov exemplifies the artist’s vibrant approach within the early 20th-century Russian avant-garde. Known for his dynamic compositions and bold use of color, Mashkov’s work aligns with Fauvism, characterized by expressive brushwork and strong, non-naturalistic hues. Executed in oil on canvas, this portrait captures a direct study of the female subject, emphasizing form and color over detailed realism. The piece reflects Mashkov’s commitment to modernist experimentation within traditional genres, blending vibrant energy with a distinctive painterly technique.
