"The Torment of Saint Anthony" is an religious painting attributed to Michelangelo, created during the Early Renaissance. The painting, which is currently housed at the Kimbell Art Museum, showcases the commonly depicted medieval subject of Saint Anthony being attacked by demons while in the desert—an episode known as the Temptation of St Anthony. Rendered on panel, Michelangelo possibly used both tempera and oil to vividly illustrate the saint being ambushed by devils, following the narrative that after resisting temptation, Saint Anthony was frequently airlifted across the desert by angels.
