The painting, 'Study to "Battle of Cascina"' by Michelangelo is an iconic work from the High Renaissance period. It is a preparatory sketch and study for a larger fresco that was commissioned for the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Unfortunately, Michelangelo was called to Rome before he could complete the fresco. The work demonstrates a mastery of movement and human anatomy, with the use of chalk on paper to portray a dramatic battle scene. This incomplete project remains a major contribution to Renaissance art.
