"'Pietà'" by Lorenzo Lotto is an High renaissance religious painting created between 1538 and 1545. The oil-on-canvas masterpiece was commissioned for the altar dedicated to the Pietà in the Dominican Church of San Paolo in Treviso. Lotto's signed work reflects his mastery of religious themes, capturing the sorrow and serenity associated with the Virgin Mary cradling Christ. After the church's suppression under Napoleonic rule, the painting was acquired in 1811 by the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, where it remains a significant example of Renaissance devotion and artistic expression.
