After a Rain

"After a Rain" is a captivating landscape painting by Arkhip Kuindzhi, created in 1879 on a sizable canvas measuring 97×181 cm. It vividly depicts a birch grove bathed in bright sunlight, with trunks and small branches in light green contrasting against the dark green forest background. The composition features a stream running through the middle, dividing the scene into two parts. Kuindzhi's skillful use of colour and light, emphasizing sharp contrasts of sun and shadow, exemplifies a style rooted in Realism. His masterful handling of oil paints lends a luminous quality, capturing the vivid atmosphere after a fresh rain.
