The "Assumption of the Virgin," also known as the Frari Assumption, is a remarkable religious painting by Titian, created between 1515 and 1518 during the High renaissance period. This large altarpiece panel, executed in oil on canvas, depicts the Virgin Mary's ascension to heaven with figures in well over life-size scale, suited to its placement on the high altar of Venice’s Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. As the largest altarpiece in Venice, it exemplifies the grandeur and spiritual intensity characteristic of Renaissance religious painting.
