"The Deposition," also known as the Pala Baglioni or Borghese Entombment, is a masterful religious painting by the Italian High renaissance artist Raphael. Created in oil on a panel, it measures 184 by 176 cm and is housed in the Galleria Borghese in Rome. This central panel of a larger altarpiece was commissioned by Atalanta Baglioni to honor her son, Grifonetto. The composition captures the poignant moment of the Deposition, blending elements of the Deposition, Lamentation, and Entombment of Christ, showcasing Raphael’s exquisite skill characteristic of the High renaissance period.
