Fruit Bowl and Fruit
"Fruit Bowl and Fruit" is an early 20th-century Cubism painting by Juan Gris, showcasing his mastery of still life composition. Created as part of a collaborative project with poet Pierre Reverdy, the work was intended for a book of lithographs based on Gris's paintings, but the project was halted by World War I in 1914. Reverdy responded with a poem titled The Fruit Bowl to accompany the artwork. Today, Gris's piece is housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, exemplifying early modernist approaches to still life in a fragmented, geometric style characteristic of Cubism.
