Fruit and Book
"Fruit and Book" by Juan Gris is an early 20th-century Still life drawing that exemplifies Gris's mastery of Cubism. Created as part of a collaborative project with poet Pierre Reverdy, the work was intended for a book featuring lithographs derived from Gris's paintings. The project was halted by World War I in 1914 and remained unfinished. Reverdy wrote a poem titled The Fruit Bowl to accompany the painting, which is now part of the collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The piece reflects Gris's innovative approach to Still life, blending abstraction with everyday objects.
