The 'Annunciation' is a renowned religious painting by Fra Angelico, created during the Early Renaissance period. This fresco, part of a series commissioned by Cosimo de' Medici for the Convent of San Marco in Florence, is considered the most famous among the approximately fifty works he executed under his supervision. The scene depicts the Angel Gabriel announcing to the Virgin Mary her divine pregnancy, rendered with delicate detail on a panel-like surface. Angelico used tempera paints to achieve luminous coloration. The composition exemplifies the spiritual serenity and meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of Early renaissance religious art.
