"Prison Scene" is a compelling oil on canvas painting by Francisco de Goya, a part of his famous tapestry cartoons designed for the Royal Tapestry Factory of Santa Barbara near Madrid. Unlike most of his other works designed to suit the tastes of King Charles III and the Bourbon princes, this painting deviates from the bucolic themes. It is an example of Genre painting and showcases the darker realities and human suffering faced in prison, a nod towards the emotive style of Romanticism. Currently, it is housed in the Museo del Prado, a testament to Goya's versatility as a painter and his ability to capture raw human emotion.
