"Fight with Cudgels," a grim genre painting by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya, currently resides in the Museo del Prado in Madrid. Displaying elements of Romanticism, the artwork depicts an intense battle between two men, armed with cudgels and engulfed up to their knees in either sand or mud. Goya, whilst being trapped in the despair of illness and isolation, utilized an oil-based medium directly onto the canvas of his home's walls, where he etched this painting among others in the series titled Black Paintings, between 1820 and 1823.
