"Portrait Belvèze" is a work by the celebrated French Neoclassical artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Even though Ingres identified himself as a classical painter, drawing much of his influence from the likes of Nicolas Poussin and Jacques-Louis David, his art, such as the "Portrait Belvèze", also dabbed in elements of romanticism and orientalism. Albeit his personal ambition to be regarded as an eminent history painter, it's his portraits, like the "Portrait Belvèze", that are widely recognized as his crowning achievements, having left a significant impact on modern art movements and inspiring modernists such as Picasso and Matisse.
