"The Resurrection of Christ," positioned on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel, is a captivating fresco by Michelangelo, a renowned Italian Renaissance painter. It showcases the Second Coming of Christ and the eternal judicial verdict by God on all humans. The depiction drew upon the stylistic tendencies of Mannerism (late renaissance), with over 300 figures shown in intense movement and complex arrangements. Michelangelo's vast sketch and study process likely involved drafts in chalk on paper to map out each figure. Despite later additions of painted drapery to partly cover nude figures, the spiritual intensity of the scene remains undiminished after recent restorations.
