The 'Crucifixion' is a central panel from the Polyptych of the Misericordia, one of the earliest works of Italian Early renaissance painter Piero della Francesca and is conserved in the Museo Civico di Sansepolcro, Tuscany. As a religious painting, it depicts the frequently used motif of the Virgin of Mercy. Using tempera and oil, Francesca expertly brought to life the deep spiritual significance of this revered scene in the Christian tradition. His birthplace, Sansepolcro, is also home to the preservation of this masterpiece.
