Gentile Bellini's Annunciation is a masterful example of Religious painting from the Early renaissance. Painted by a prominent Venetian artist from a leading family of painters, the work captures the biblical moment of the Angel Gabriel's announcement to the Virgin Mary. Bellini's skill in depicting detailed figures and spatial harmony reflects the innovations of the early renaissance. As Venice’s official portrait artist, he also produced large-scale works with numerous figures, often for the wealthy confraternities of Venice, known as Scuole Grandi.
