The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, created by Gustav Klimt between 1903 and 1907, represents the culmination of Klimt's golden phase. This masterpiece, an amalgamation of oil paint and gold leaf applied on canvas, was commissioned by Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, a prominent Viennese Jewish banker. Resplendent in Klimt's Art Nouveau style, this precious artwork was stolen by the Nazis in 1941 but later exhibited at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. The painting was one of two commissioned portraits of Adele by Klimt, and part of several Klimt's works owned by the Bloch-Bauer family.
