'The Resurrection' is a breathtaking element of the Doña María de Aragón Altarpiece, painted between 1596 and 1599 by the late renaissance (or Mannerism) master, El Greco. This religious painting was commissioned for the Colegio de la Encarnación in Madrid. The altarpiece was, however, dismantled when the college was ultimately secularized. El Greco's 'The Resurrection' is just one of the six large surviving canvases done in oil, five of which are now housed in the Prado, while one resides in the National Museum of Art of Romania in Bucharest.
