'Margot' is a stirring portrait by American painter and printmaker, Mary Stevenson Cassatt. Like much of Cassatt's work, this piece reflects the intimate natures of women's private lives and relationships with children. Living most of her adult life in France, she was greatly influenced by the revolutionary style of the French Impressionists, including her close friend Edgar Degas. This influence is evident in 'Margot,' as Cassatt masterfully harnesses the soft, nuanced hues of pastels to create a delicate, emotionally resonant scene.
