"Dover" is a circa 1747 landscape painting by British artist Richard Wilson, depicting a panoramic view of Dover in Kent with Dover Castle in the distance. The artwork possibly features a self-portrait of Wilson seated at an easel in the foreground. Notably, it was the first of Wilson’s landscape paintings to be engraved, and he dedicated the engraving to the influential Duke of Dorset, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. This work marks an early phase before Wilson’s style was significantly transformed by his later stay in Italy.
