Northern River is a striking Landscape oil painting created by Canadian artist Tom Thomson between 1914 and 1915. Measuring 115.1 × 102.0 cm, it was inspired by a winter sketch, possibly taken in Algonquin Park. Thomson completed the work in his Toronto shack during a pivotal moment in his brief but influential Post-impressionism period. The painting captures the natural beauty and vibrant colors characteristic of Thomson’s style, making it one of his most notable works. Acquired by the National Gallery of Canada in 1915, it remains a significant piece in Canadian art history.
