"Landscape with St. John the Baptist Preaching" by Joachim Patinir exemplifies his mastery in creating a landscape as an independent genre. A pioneer of the Northern renaissance, Patinir was one of the first Netherlandish painters to prioritize landscape in his compositions. Painted on a panel using oil techniques, the work showcases his innovation in perspective and his invention of the world landscape style. This painting captures the vast, panoramic view characteristic of Patinir's contribution to Western art.
