The artwork captures the moment when the Angel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary her divine motherhood, characterized by luminous color and intricate detail. David, a highly successful painter and manuscript illuminator, was renowned for his brilliant use of color and delicate realism. Although little is known about his life, his influence persisted through his workshops in Antwerp and Bruges. Rediscovered in the 19th century, David remains a significant figure in the history of early Netherlandish art.
