The Lochis Madonna by Carlo Crivelli is an exquisite example of Religious painting from the Early renaissance period, created around 1475. It is executed using tempera on panel, a technique favored for its vibrant color and durability. The artwork showcases the Madonna and Child, set against a background that highlights Crivelli’s characteristic gilding and detailed ornamentation. The work is painted on wood and signed OPVS CAROLI CRIVELLI VENETI. Today, it resides in the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, having entered collection in 1866 from Guglielmo Lochis’ collection, with its earlier history largely unknown.
