"Passage" is a striking stained glass window created by Cologne artist Gerhard Richter for the south transept of the Cologne Cathedral, measuring 106 square metres. Comprising 11,263 glass squares in 72 diverse colours, the design employs a primarily abstract and Abstract expressionism style, with elements arranged somewhat randomly and others responding to the architectural context. Installed in 2007 during a Eucharistic celebration, the window’s abstract execution sparked both admiration and critique, embodying contemporary artistic dialogue within a sacred space.
