Playing cards

Heorhiy Narbut’s 1917 artwork Playing Cards from Kiev, Ukraine, exemplifies the fusion of design and fine art characteristic of the early 20th century. As a master of graphic arts, Narbut employs the elegant, flowing lines and intricate ornamentation typical of Art nouveau (modern), creating visually compelling compositions. This piece, rooted in the genre of illustrative design, showcases technical precision and stylized forms that elevate utilitarian objects like playing cards into art. Narbut’s work reflects a sophisticated understanding of balance and harmony, bridging traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetic principles.
