The Portrait of a Man is an oil-on-canvas painting created around 1545 by Lorenzo Lotto, a prominent artist of the Italian High Renaissance. The work demonstrates Lotto’s masterful use of color and detail, typical of his mid-1540s style, comparable to his Portrait of an Old Man with Gloves. Some scholars suggest the subject may be Giovanni Taurini da Montepulciano, viceroy of Ancona, possibly dating the piece to 1551. The painting is housed in Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera, acquired in 1855 through the Oggioni Bequest, exemplifying Renaissance portraiture’s depth and psychological insight.
