"The Return from Egypt of the Holy Family" is a religious painting by Jacob Jordaens, created around 1618-1620, exemplifying the Baroque style. This Oil on Canvas depicts the Holy Family's return to Nazareth after fleeing into Egypt. Known for its vibrant composition and dramatic use of light, the painting highlights Jordaens' mastery of the Baroque period's emotional intensity. It was plundered by Nazi soldiers in 1940 but was restituted in 2025 to the descendants of its original owner, Belgian resistance fighter Joseph Scheppers de Bergstein.
