Nude in Profile

"Balthus's 'Nude in Profile' exemplifies his mastery of the Oil on Canvas technique, capturing a poised, enigmatic figure in a subtly erotic yet dreamlike state. Reflecting elements of Expressionism, the painting conveys intense emotion through its refined use of light and shadow. As a Nude painting (nu), it evokes both innocence and complexity, characteristic of Balthus's often controversial focus on young girls. The work’s haunting, surreal atmosphere aligns with his reputation for blending realism with a Surrealism-influenced dreaminess."
