"The Assumption of the Virgin" is a c.1555 oil on canvas religious painting by Tintoretto, now housed in the church I Gesuiti. It was originally created for Santa Maria dei Crociferi, alongside "Presentation at the Temple." The painting exhibits vibrant coloring reminiscent of Oil-based techniques used by contemporaries like Paolo Veronese. Its style is influenced by Mannerism (late renaissance), characterized by dramatic composition and elongated figures. Carlo Ridolfi noted that Veronese had initially secured the commission before Tintoretto, who promised to imitate Veronese’s style to earn the work. This masterpiece exemplifies Tintoretto’s dynamic approach to religious painting.
