"The Assumption" is a c.1555 oil on canvas religious painting by Tintoretto, now housed in the church I Gesuiti. Originally, it and "Presentation at the Temple" were commissioned for Santa Maria dei Crociferi. The painting's vibrant coloring resembles that of Paolo Veronese. Its composition reflects Mannerism (late renaissance) tendencies, characterized by dramatic figures and complex figures. Carlo Ridolfi noted that Veronese initially secured the commission before Tintoretto's confident promise to produce a work in Veronese's style, contributing to its layered artistic history as a distinguished example of religious painting.
