"Christ Washing the Feet of His Disciples" was a recurring theme for Tintoretto, with at least six known works depicting the biblical scene from John 13, where Christ humbly washes his disciples’ feet before the Last Supper. The composition demands a complex arrangement of figures in dynamic poses and varied motions, showcasing Tintoretto’s skill and fascination with Mannerism (late renaissance). These religious paintings were commissioned for Venice's churches; however, four of them have since left Italy. Tintoretto often executed these works on canvas using oil paints, emphasizing drama and movement characteristic of his style.
