Landscape with Two Peasant Girls and a Rainbow

"Landscape with Two Peasant Girls and a Rainbow" by Konstantin Andreyevich Somov exemplifies his mastery within the Landscape tradition, infused with Symbolism that reflects his association with the Mir iskusstva movement. Painted during his Russian period, the work captures a vivid rural scene with two peasant girls beneath a striking rainbow, blending natural beauty with a dreamlike, symbolic atmosphere. Somov's delicate brushwork and palette evoke a sense of lyrical mysticism, resonating with the artistic explorations of Symbolism that sought to express deeper spiritual meanings. His legacy includes some of the highest auction prices for Russian art, such as the 2007 sale of his The Rainbow at Christie's London for GBP 3,716,000.
