The Annunciation by Filippo Lippi is a notable example of Early renaissance religious painting created around 1449–1459. This tempera on panel work, part of the collection at the National Gallery, London, was originally commissioned for the Palazzo Medici in Florence. It depicts the angel Gabriel announcing to the Virgin Mary, embodying the spiritual and narrative qualities characteristic of religious painting. Although traditionally executed in Oil, Lippi’s use of tempera highlights the luminous qualities and delicate details typical of the period. The Annunciation is paired with its pendant, Seven Saints, forming a compelling visual narrative.
