"Sunset with trees," also known as Red Sunset on the Dnipro, is an oil on canvas by Arkhip Kuindzhi created between 1905-1908. This landscape captures a dramatic sunset over the Dnieper River, showcasing Kuindzhi's mastery of light and color within the realm of Russian luminism—a style that emphasizes luminous effects and natural atmospheres, distinct from Impressionism. Known for his large, atmospheric landscapes, Kuindzhi prepared with two sketches before completing this work, illustrating his careful study of natural phenomena and his innovative approach to capturing the transient beauty of sunset skies full of trees and vibrant hues.
