Willem de Kooning's painting Still Life exemplifies his mastery within Abstract expressionism. Although often associated with Abstract forms, his work also explores representational subjects through dynamic, gestural brushstrokes. De Kooning, a Dutch-American artist who relocated to the United States in 1926 and became a U.S. citizen in 1962, was known for his expressive style that blurs boundaries between abstraction and realism. His marriage to painter Elaine Fried in 1943 influenced much of his artistic evolution. Still Life reflects his innovative approach to capturing familiar objects with vibrant energy and emotional depth.
