Guido Reni's The Annunciation is a captivating religious painting created in early 1629, commissioned by Marie de' Medici. This Baroque oil on canvas depicts the biblical moment when the Angel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she will conceive the Christ. Notably, it is Reni's first large work to reach France and is now housed as Inventory Number 521 in the Louvre Museum, displayed in Room 12 of the Grande Galerie. The artist previously created an earlier, less elaborate version of this scene in 1621 for San Pietro in Valle, Fano.
