Head on a Green Sofa

"Head on a Green Sofa" is a compelling portrait by Lucian Michael Freud, a renowned British painter and draughtsman known for his mastery in figurative art. Executed in rich oil on canvas, the painting exemplifies Freud’s intense focus on human anatomy and psychological depth, often associated with Expressionism. The work captures a raw, unidealized depiction of the sitter’s head resting on a vibrant green sofa, emphasizing texture and form. Freud’s expressive brushwork and keen attention to detail make this a significant piece in 20th-century portraiture.
