The Portrait of Henry VIII by Hans Holbein the Younger, created between 1536 and 1537, is a renowned example of Northern renaissance art. Though the original Oil painting is lost, it was part of the Whitehall Mural, illustrating the Tudor dynasty at the Palace of Whitehall in Westminster. The painting depicted Henry VIII with striking realism and grandeur, highlighting the regal image of the monarch. Painted on canvas, this portrait remains one of the most iconic images of any English or British monarch, and although the mural was destroyed by fire in 1698, the widespread copies preserve its legacy.
