"Proserpine" is an mythological painting created by the English artist and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti in 1874. This oil on canvas exemplifies Rossetti’s deep engagement with the Symbolism movement. The work depicts the tragic myth of Proserpine, capturing her longing and despair. Rossetti produced at least eight versions of this piece, with the seventh, originally commissioned by Frederick Richards Leyland, housed at Tate Britain, and a very similar final version now displayed at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
