"Study for the Kneeling Leda" is a sketch and study associated with Leonardo da Vinci’s explorations of the High renaissance fascination with mythological themes. Created around 1503–1510, this paper work employs ink to capture the dynamic posture of Leda as she kneels, inspired by the myth of Leda and the Swan. While Leonardo’s original paintings do not survive, numerous copies and drawings, particularly of the second composition where Leda stands, attest to his detailed study process and mastery in preparing for a potential masterpiece.
