The Portrait of Pietro Aretino is a notable oil on canvas masterpiece by Titian, created around 1545, likely for Cosimo I de' Medici. This Mannerism (late renaissance) work captures the commanding presence and wit of the influential Renaissance poet. The painting’s refined brushwork and sophisticated composition reflect Titian’s mastery and the style of his period. Titian produced two other portraits of Aretino, in 1527 and 1537, now housed in Basel and the Frick Collection, respectively. Currently, this portrait resides in the Sala di Venere of Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
