Pieta
The Pieta by Titian, created around 1575-1576, is a renowned religious painting rendered in oil on canvas. As one of his final works, it was left incomplete at his death and was later finished by Palma Giovane. The painting was originally intended to hang over Titian's grave, with two stages of completion designed for different churches. Exhibiting elements of Mannerism (late renaissance), the composition reflects the elongated figures and stylized forms characteristic of the period. Today, it resides in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice.
