Diana and Callisto is a stunning mythological painting by Titian, created between 1556 and 1559 during the Mannerism (late Renaissance) period. This Oil on canvas depicts the poignant moment when the goddess Diana discovers her maid Callisto pregnant by Jupiter. Renowned for its rich color and emotional depth, the painting exemplifies Titian’s masterful use of color and composition. It was jointly acquired by the National Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery for £45 million in 2012, and together with its companion, Diana and Actaeon, it alternates on display between London and Edinburgh. A later version by Titian and his workshop resides in Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum.
