"Hyaku Monogatari Kohada Koheiji" is a striking ukiyo-e woodblock print from Katsushika Hokusai’s One Hundred Ghost Stories series, created around 1830. Part of his late works, this piece reflects Hokusai's interest in the Edo period's superstitions and popular ghost stories, capturing a scene from the game Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai. The series, although only five prints survive, was intended to include one hundred images depicting mythological paintings. Despite his reputation for landscapes, Hokusai's ghost stories showcase his versatility and fascination with the supernatural, illustrating a mythological aspect of his art."
