The Baroque oil-on-canvas portrait titled Portrait of Eleazer Swalmius was painted in 1637 by the Dutch master Rembrandt. It depicts the preacher Eleazar Swalmius with characteristic realism and masterful use of light and shadow, emblematic of Rembrandt’s Baroque style. Owned by the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, this painting was historically listed in the 1727 Duke of Orléans collection and remained in noble hands until 1792, when it was sold to fund political endeavors. Despite doubts over its authenticity, it was eventually confirmed as a genuine Rembrandt and has been recognized as an important example of his portrait work.
