"The Last Supper" (1630–1631) by Peter Paul Rubens is a masterful religious painting created with oil on canvas. Commissioned by Catherine Lescuyer, it served as an altarpiece for the Church of St. Rombout in Mechelen. The painting vividly captures the moment of the Last Supper, with Jesus dressed in red, highlighted by a yellow halo, and centrally positioned. Surrounding him are his disciples, notably Judas, dressed in blue, turned away and nervously holding his hand to his mouth, embodying betrayal. Rubens’s dynamic Baroque style heightens the emotional intensity, blending theological symbolism with dramatic visual impact.
