The Annunciation by Peter Paul Rubens is a striking example of Baroque Religious painting that captures the divine moment when the Angel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she will bear the Son of God. The first version, painted in 1609 for a Jesuit college in Antwerp, is now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. Rubens also produced a second, incomplete version around 1610, which he finished in 1627–1628 and altered the figure of Mary. This later work resides in the Rubenshuis, Antwerp.
